Yasir Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim lives with his wife and their four sons and one daughter-in- Alkhartta Village of Shekan Locality. Yasir apply the skills and techniques he has learned from the FAO funded project “Livelihood response to mitigate the impacts of drought on food security and livelihoods – Seed Distribution to support the planting season of 2023”.
The project implemented by Vet-Care Organization in four targeted localities namely: Bara, Shaikan, Elrahad and Um Ruwaba localities of North Kordofan state. As part of the project training packages Mr. Yasir received training sessions, focusing on best agronomic practices, best management, village seed banking and collective farming.
He recalls, “I used to live in Khartoum with my family working as a trader. We returned back to our village as a result of current war between SAF and RSF; we lost everything. I decided to start to farm again with the support we received from FAO through VCO.”
“We have been trained on how to better manage any surplus production in my sorghum field, including through grain storage, reserves and planning for seasonal shortages and price increases, with the inputs and training we received this year we will have promising harvest and my family will survive during this critical time we are facing”.
