Agricultural, livestock related IGAs and Food Processing Project Dilling locality SKS – Success Story

Amna Hassan Teya Goja a 32-year-old IDP mother of three children is a member of HHs groups supported by Vet-Care Organization under IOM/USAID funded project in Alseer Alamen village of Dilling locality. When Amna informed the village about a forthcoming demonstration of drip irrigation equipment on selected plots, Amna was very interested to join.

Amna was selected by the project and for more than a three months now, she has been growing tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant and carrots — vegetables that, it had been believed until then, would not to grow in the home garden.

She was provided with sets of Drip irrigation system equipments and received theoretical and practical training in system operation and vegetable agronomic practices.

She informed “watering her vegetables now requires much less time and effort”. She compares it with a washing machine: “You need to put water into the tank, open the tap and the water flows to every plant in the right quantity”.

She already harvesting and selling cucumbers and eggplant, which are growing fast, she expects to harvest at least 100 Kg of vegetables and to earn better income in addition she can make nutrient food for her family.
