I am Asrar, originally I’m from Jabal-Awlya-Khartoum State. When the conflict was intense in Khartoum State, I fled with my family to Kusti city WNS for safety. As a result of high houses rent; I stay with my family in Rabaa School IDPs gathering site. My father has no job now; I have to work selling food to help in securing some basic needs. I suffered a lot from the lack of sanitary and hygiene items when we arrived here. They are very expensive while we don’t have enough resources to obtain. In fact, I am subject to many uncertainties to cover the cost of these items.
Asrar and her family living in the IDPs gathering center of Rabaa School lacking the basic sanitary and hygiene items/equipments. Asrar spends most of her little income covering the essential basic needs of her family mostly food and medicines for her diabetic mother nothing left for sanitary and hygiene materials. Asrar had no money to buy such equipments. “Asrar informed: The distribution of hygiene kits by VCO is a useful support; we can only say thank you to VCO for your help in providing us with hygiene kits that contributed to improve and promote hygiene, easing our suffering, and bringing us some psychological comfort”.
It was very difficult… Living at the IDPs site without basic hygiene items
“The hygiene kits provided by VCO included sanitary and hygiene items that matches our needs and considered necessary especially at the time of emergency situations Asrar added”.
In addition, under the supervision of State MOH VCO conducted Community Hygiene Promoters training among IDPs families, regarding:
- The role of Hygiene Promoters.
- Contamination chain, three pile sorting.
- Hygiene Promotion during Cholera response, Diarrhoea and ORT.
- Household water treatment and storage. Asrar attended these sessions and gained useful information on these topics and further participated with the hygiene promotion teams and carried out a community awareness session on the importance of personal hygiene and raised awareness of families about good health practices.
I would like to thank VCO, SDNJRP5-024 and DRA from the bottom of my heart for this generous support in this situation.
