Kassala – Crisis Modifier https://vetcare-sd.org/kassala-crisis-modifier/ Thu, 27 Feb 2025 10:24:18 +0000 https://vetcare-sd.org/?p=297 Hawa, a vibrant 28-year-old mother, once danced in the embrace of happiness alongside her three cherished children. Nestled in a warm haven in Singah, Sennar State, her days were a tapestry woven with love until the ominous clouds of conflict loomed. Her husband, a devoted shepherd, tenderly cared for their flock of sheep, creating a life rich with serenity. However, as chaos swept through Singah, Hawa and her beloved husband were driven to seek refuge at the Ali-Atallh IDPs’ Hosting Site in Kassala city, Kassala State, East Sudan, longing for a sanctuary to shield their trembling little ones.

Hawa, as a newly IDP, found a shelter that lacks the minimum life needs, where they had only a pan to cook in; whereas, there were no blankets to cover them when it’s cold or raining, only cartons could cover their chilly bodies.

However, Vet-Care Organization (VCO) funded by the DRA; implemented crisis Modifier interventions under the Sudan Joint Response Program-024 targeting IDPs of Sennar State at Kassala State; VCO distributed non-food-items (NFIs) to Hawa and her family (Beds, mattresses, blankets, kitchen utensils, water containers, etc). “I am glad and grateful that I have household stuff, thank you VCO and DRA” Hawa said. Success Story Kusti – Locality WNS https://vetcare-sd.org/success-story-kusti-locality-wns/ Thu, 27 Feb 2025 09:20:47 +0000 https://vetcare-sd.org/?p=285 I am Asrar, originally I’m from Jabal-Awlya-Khartoum State. When the conflict was intense in Khartoum State, I fled with my family to Kusti city WNS for safety. As a result of high houses rent; I stay with my family in Rabaa School IDPs gathering site. My father has no job now; I have to work selling food to help in securing some basic needs. I suffered a lot from the lack of sanitary and hygiene items when we arrived here. They are very expensive while we don’t have enough resources to obtain. In fact, I am subject to many uncertainties to cover the cost of these items.

Asrar and her family living in the IDPs gathering center of Rabaa School lacking the basic sanitary and hygiene items/equipments. Asrar spends most of her little income covering the essential basic needs of her family mostly food and medicines for her diabetic mother nothing left for sanitary and hygiene materials. Asrar had no money to buy such equipments. “Asrar informed: The distribution of hygiene kits by VCO is a useful support; we can only say thank you to VCO for your help in providing us with hygiene kits that contributed to improve and promote hygiene, easing our suffering, and bringing us some psychological comfort”.

It was very difficult… Living at the IDPs site without basic hygiene items

“The hygiene kits provided by VCO included sanitary and hygiene items that matches our needs and considered necessary especially at the time of emergency situations Asrar added”.

In addition, under the supervision of State MOH VCO conducted Community Hygiene Promoters training among IDPs families, regarding:

  • The role of Hygiene Promoters.
  • Contamination chain, three pile sorting.
  • Hygiene Promotion during Cholera response, Diarrhoea and ORT.
  • Household water treatment and storage. Asrar attended these sessions and gained useful information on these topics and further participated with the hygiene promotion teams and carried out a community awareness session on the importance of personal hygiene and raised awareness of families about good health practices.

I would like to thank VCO, SDNJRP5-024 and DRA from the bottom of my heart for this generous support in this situation. Ziskovum

Success Story from Kassala State https://vetcare-sd.org/success-story-from-kassala-state-2/ Thu, 27 Feb 2025 09:10:22 +0000 https://vetcare-sd.org/?p=275 Ramdan Sati Ygoub Idrees; a 40 years old who was internally displaced with his wife and 8 children, narrates how VCO introduced him to a new business strategy he never thought of: “Since I fled from my community in Khartoum State to Madani Jazera State (JS) a year ago and due to expansion of war to JS I moved for the second time to Kassala State, I and my family have been wandering from one place to another looking for a means of survival. I found myself in Garb Algash-Kassala locality at Yahya Ali Yahya School, where more than 50 families are gathering with no source of income just waiting for charity help.

One fateful day, VCO, during IDPs assessment selected me as a beneficiary for the Livelihood Cash support; I was assessed and gave me an amount of cash grant based on my type of small business I chosed. I was given an amount of 525K SDG and I started business selling many small trade items such as toothbrush, sweets, toys, liquid soap…etc in my wheel prow where I make SDG 5,000 daily. With the profit I make, I will be able to extend to other businesses. My children are now can go back to school since government decided to reopen the schools and my family feeds well. I am so grateful to VCO for grooming me into a responsible father; today I can stand on my own and attend to my needs and that of my family. Even if there’s no more NGO today, I can proudly say “I am well established to continue my business, I remain indebted to VCO”. Prestara Nexor

Success Story from Kassala state https://vetcare-sd.org/success-story-from-kassala-state/ Thu, 27 Feb 2025 08:29:38 +0000 https://vetcare-sd.org/?p=266 Enayat Abdallah Ahmed; aged 68, is a widow and a mother of 8 children, one of vulnerable women headed household resident in Kassala Grab Al-Gash Admin Unit – El-Sawagi El-shamaliya district. “My husband was died months ago, and that was the beginning of my hardship. I had 8 children with nowhere to go and no family to rely on; I cannot provide basic needs for my children. Most people in this community know and pitied the condition I was in, that was why the DOSW referred me to VCO to join their MPCA program”.

“Words are not just enough to describe how my situation changed in the last two months, from engaging in hard labor for survival to being a business owner. I am now independent and can provide for the basic needs of my family. I invested the money I received trough the MPCA program (SDG 495K) in a provision business, bought a spices and dry vegetable grinder machine, with the rest of the money I bought raw materials (Okra, spices, Henna…etc).  I used to place the business name and my contact on the products; so customers can easily reach me and know my place or sending their orders through the delivery services. I can say I’m doing well with my business; I gain about SDG 90,000 monthly. I took my children back to school. Things have really changed in my family, my children are now happy and doing well. I am grateful to Vet-Care, the SDNJRP5 and the DRA for giving me an opportunity to make something positive out of my life”. Peluxiv
