Improve Learning environment in Somia Bint Alkhayat Basic Schools for Girls

Vet-care Organization (VCO) conducted a Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) in December, 2014 and the findings were as follows:

Somia Bint Alkhayat Basic School for Girls established in 1954 approximately 61 years ago without proper maintenance. The school located in Western Sudan, North Kordofan State, Abu Haraz Administration unit (Somia Bint Alkhayat Basic School for Girls), located 30 Km West of Elobeid city and 700 Km South West Khartoum The current situation of the school's buildings are as follows:

  • One classroom totally collapsed.

  • One classroom was evacuated by the school administration because it is nearly collapsed.

  • Two classes reach critical stage it can’t be repaired,

  • There are four classes could be rehabilitated.

  • There are no sitting sets at the school.

  • No bathroom (boarding house)

This school is an examination centre for Abu Haraz primary Schools for Girls, where all the students are gathered every year from the different Administration Schools to sit for the Primary Examination Certificate where the students have to live in the schools for a period of two weeks to take the exam even though there is no any bath rooms in the school.

All these factors contributed directly or indirectly to the students drop out.
