With the support of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects, a small-grant funding program of Japan Embassy – Sudan and under the instruction of VCO and its local partners, the students of Debeibat area enjoy better learning environment: 12 classrooms were, constructed, rehabilitated and equipped to accommodate about 2,000 primary school students (boys & girls) in Korkora kenana, Umglaina and Debeibat primary schools. In addition to that school latrines, fence and hand pumps were constructed and installed in Debeibat and Korkora Kenana primary schools.
Changing the situation
Before the new buildings, the situation was such that some of the classes were conducted in makeshift structures comprised of straw roof and stick walls, a situation that was not conducive for learning. Now, the additional classrooms and school facilities provided a better learning environment for the students of three targeted schools and the enrolment rate was increased by more than 50%. The Japan ambassador attended the turnover ceremony.
