New opportunities for war affected youths in Abyei Area.

After the signing of CPA in 2005 between SG and SPLA, VCO contributes in strengthening the environment for peace and stability in Abyei area, through empowering and supporting the war- affected youths and returnees.

With social fund support, Switzerland Embassy in Khartoum- Sudan, VCO contributes in strengthening the environment for peace and stability to around 4,500 war-affected youths and returnees in Abyei area. The Project activities focus on building community capacity to mitigate conflict and guide local development, increasing agricultural production at the household level, and increasing employment in off-farm livelihoods.

Youths Development Centers (YDCs):

The project managed to establish and equipped three Youth Development centers (YDCs) in the three targeted villages, (YDCs) executive committees were selected and trained on simple managerial skills in order to direct the YDCs activities and to create/plan and run future projects. The centers promoted the participation of youth in advocacy programs and upgrading the livelihood standers.

New opportunities for war affected youths in Abyei Area:

Different intervention programs were implemented through the YDCs; agriculture education (targeting women & Youths), fishing and boats making, carpentering and building skills, fish processing, sewing and handcraft skills. Through the project, agricultural productivity, livelihood skills, and sources of income are being enhanced, particularly for women and youth.  By addressing low levels of livelihood opportunities and food insecurity, and fostering cooperative approaches to local development, the project is helping to improve local stability and support peace initiatives in Abyei area.
